Celebrate National Public Lands Day
Celebrate National Public Lands Day by volunteering on state trust lands Sept. 24 - State DNR and partners to host events in Western Washington. Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invite the public to join volunteers and partner organizations to celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Saturday, September 24, on DNR-managed state trust lands in Western Washington.

A full slate of educational activities, entertainment events and more are being planned for Celebrate Elwha! Sept. 15-18 to mark the start of the three-year dam removal phase of the Elwha River Restoration project.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is urging campers, recreationists, woods workers, and other forest visitors to be especially careful with fire this weekend. DNR has a burn ban in place until September 30, 2011, for all 12.7 million acres of public and private lands it protects from wildfire. During the ban, campfires may be allowed, but only in approved fire pits in designated campgrounds. Campers are not allowed to build their own fire pits.
