Hello my name is Dan Griffey. Many of you know me as your local Firefighter, the guy that helped with the Turkey Trot at Evergreen School or escorted you through the Haunted House in Allyn. What you may not know is why I want to be your next your State Representative.I have lived in Mason County all of my life and my wife and I have chosen to raise our three daughters here as well. It has changed quite a bit over the years. One of the most notable changes came when the spotted owl robbed us of one of main employment opportunities in the county- timber harvesting. The effects were devastating. I remember watching as our community virtually shut down with the skyrocketing unemployment. There was not a business timber didn’t touch. We barely recovered when we were smacked upside the head with the Growth Management Act and there is more legislation on the way that reeks of the same intrusive, job killing, desolation. I am running to give you your voice back, to champion a predictable environment for our businesses to grow, educate our future work force and to ensure that we can be competitive in the global economy. Mason County can be a place that we raise our children and know that they will have the same opportunity to find work and build their futures here as well. I will fight to protect individual property rights, stop wasteful spending and put families before felons. I will vote to fund education first and focus on priorities like public safety and our most vulnerable citizens. My leadership skills have been instrumental in bringing the people together. I know we can change the economic climate and put the people first again. Henry Ford said- "Don’t find a fault, find a remedy." This is the approach we need in Olympia to bring people together, fund our priorities, end the gridlock of special sessions and get “Washington working again.” If you agree, vote for Dan Griffey and have someone truly working for YOU in Olympia. Because together... We can do better!

I am a veterinarian who, along with my husband, Gary Haigh, has practiced in Mason county for 34 years. We have two sons, Eddie and Dan, who are both graduated from college. Eddie graduated undergrad from UW and from WSU with his professional degree in veterinary medicine. He now works with me and my husband in out veterinary clinic. I am blessed with a supportive family and friends. I have enjoyed the challenge and the rewards of my public life as a state representative and would appreciate the support of my community to return to public office. I remain committed to my pledge to be a leader who listens to the people and responds to their needs. I believe a healthy community has living wage jobs, an educated work force, safe and affordable housing and access to appropriate health care for all. I will work to support these opportunities for all citizens. Quality education will remain my top priority as we move forward from difficult economic times. We must have a well educated and trained work force ready to go to work. But if we are to succeed in our public education system we must all work to create an early childhood wellness program in our communities so children enter our schools ready and able to learn as well as developing strong identity with family and a sense of community. I will work to provide full day kindergarten for all children if parents desire to do so, not only if they can afford it. I will also work to bring communities together to offer high quality pre-school programs for all children. Good government must be responsive and accountable to the public. I support performance audits and will continue to serve on the accountability committees. The need for change in our health care system remains highly controversial, but I will support proposals that expand access and improve quality of service for all of the people. Our environment remains as a high level of concern and I will work to provide leadership to raise awareness, develop strong proposals, and implement programs at local, state and federal levels to protect and improve our water, air, and land.
