A judge sentenced an Olympia man to 8 ½ years in prison Thursday for fatally shooting a friend in the head. 23 year old Shane McKinlay was sentenced as part of a plea deal immediately after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of 24 year old Andy Wattenberg. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of second-degree murder. The two had been out drinking when McKinlay said he placed a 357 magnum to Wattenberg’s head and pulled the trigger. McKinlay said he was fooling around.
