Senators Defend Their Position

State Senators Tim Sheldon and fellow Democrat, Senator Rodney Tom say they have been vilified for being disloyal to the Democratic Party and voting with 23 Republicans in the Senate as part of the new Majority Coalition Caucus. Today they are speaking out. Senators Sheldon and Tom have written an op-ed titled:  ‘We’re proud Democrats who represent our districts, not a party’

Senator Sheldon is in his ninth term, and says his focus has always been on representing the wishes of those he represents. The Senators wrote that if you look at the choices made by voters in our districts, we are right in line on social issues, taxes, the need for education reform and a responsible budget. They seemed to ask members of their own party,
Exactly what part of encouraging job creation, creating a quality, well-funded education system and producing a sustainable, balanced budget is a betrayal of Democratic values?
They added that when political partisanship flies in the face of what the majority of our constituents want, we side with the people, not the party.
