A teenager has pleaded guilty to rape after a younger boy reported incidents that occurred at a Washington state senator's home. Court records in Lewis County show that the 15-year-old pleaded guilty Tuesday to four charges of child molestation and four charges raping a child. The 11-year-old victim in the case told authorities that the older boy had abused him at a home in Raymond owned by state Sen. Brian Hatfield and another home in Chehalis. The records say that Hatfield became aware of the abuse in mid-February and had worked to keep the boys apart but did not report the matter to authorities. Lewis County investigators first began examining the issue two weeks ago after school officials reported that a student had disclosed details of sexual abuse. Hatfield did not return a call seeking comment.
Starbucks says it signed a new five-year contract to make single-serve packs for Green Mountain's Keurig brewing machines, a deal that also expands the companies' partnership beyond North America. The deal comes after Starbucks last year introduced its own single-serve brewing machine, which was seen by many as posing a threat to Green Mountain's popular machines. But Starbucks has noted that its machine, the Verismo, is aimed more at people who want to make espresso drinks such as lattes. Green Mountain's low-pressure machines primarily make brewed coffee. Under the new deal, Starbucks Corp. is adding brands such as Seattle's Best to the packs it will make for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.'s Keurig and Vue machines. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
