Smith leads Hawks to 95-87 win over Trail Blazers
Josh Smith had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Kyle Korver added 16 points and the Atlanta Hawks snapped a two-game skid with a 95-87 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night.
Al Horford added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Atlanta, which was playing the second game of a four-game West Coast swing after losing 89-76 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
J.J. Hickson had 19 points and 18 rebounds, and Nicolas Batum scored 19 points to lead Portland, which dropped its fourth straight. Wesley Matthews had 17 points and made all 10 of his free throws.
Trail Blazers All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting.
He added eight assists, but had just seven points in the first three quarters.
 
No. 19 Gonzaga beats West Virginia 84-50
Gary Bell Jr. scored 15 points and No. 19 Gonzaga crushed West Virginia 84-50 on Monday night.
Guy Landry Edi added 14 points for Gonzaga (2-0), which shut down the Mountaineer shooters. Kevin Pangos scored 13 points and Elias Harris chipped in 11 points for the Zags.
Aaric Murray led West Virginia (0-1) with 14 points, while Jabari Hinds added nine.
The Mountaineers shot just 27 percent from the field in the game and never got their offense untracked. They were 3 of 26 from 3-point range.
Gonzaga made only 4 of its first 15 shots, but led 15-2 after 8 minutes as West Virginia missed 9 of its first 10 shots. Sam Dower's stuff made it 21-6.
Gonzaga led 45-18 at halftime, thanks to 51 percent shooting that included 6 of 11 3-pointers.
 
Oregon defeats Portland State 80-69
Freshman point guard Dominic Artis scored 16 points to lead Oregon over Portland State 80-69 Monday night.
Carlos Emory added 15 points and Damyean Dotson had 12 points and six rebounds for Oregon, which made 8 of its first 11 3-point attempts to build a big lead and never trailed in the game.
Artis was 6 for 13 from the field and made four of Oregon's nine 3-pointers. It was the Ducks' long-range shooting touch that helped them take a 51-33 advantage into halftime.
Oregon made 7 of 10 3-pointers in the first half, with Artis making three and Emory making two. Leading 19-12 near the midway point of the half, Emory made a 3, Artis followed with another on Oregon's next possession and Emory made it three straight to put the Ducks up 28-12.
Dre Winston and Renado Parker each had 15 points to lead Portland State (1-1).
 
Cal State Northridge tops Eastern Washington 96-79
Stephen Maxwell had 21 points and 10 rebounds Monday night to lead Cal State Northridge past Eastern Washington 96-79.
Brandon Perry had 19 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Matadors (2-0). Allen Guei added 10 points and five steals, and Josh Greene had 13 assists for Northridge.
Martin Seiferth led all players with 27 points and 17 rebounds, and had seven blocked shots for Eastern Washington (0-2). Justin Crosgile had 18 points and seven assists for the Eagles, and Venky Jois scored 12 points.
Northridge never trailed Monday, but only led 36-32 at halftime and Eastern Washington came within two points early in the second half before the Matadors put the game away.
The Matadors beat Pepperdine Friday night in their season opener.
The Eagles dropped their opening game at Washington State.
